Vel'Nevarith

From House of Khilat

This scimitar has a long and curved wavy blade of black metal with silver flecks. The hilt has four razor sharp tines curving up towards the central blade. The hilt has a black star sapphire at the crosspoint of the hilt and tang.

The sword requires a successful blade rite to claim ownership and full access to its powers. The sword can inflict fear upon a claimant who refuses to accept the swords rejection, such that they will never be able to touch the sword again; no saving throw allowed. Any tribe member can challenge the wielder for right to lead the tribe. The owner may lend the blade to any tribe member without losing claim to the blade, and this is most often done to train anticipated heirs.

Powers

Scimitar of Speed +3

The sword has a 14 intelligence and an ego of 17. The blade's alignment is Chaotic Good, with a personality that vacillates from focused zen, to psychotic vicious rage. It has the special purpose to defend it clan. It speaks Elven.

It has the following powers:

  • Starshine at will, shed from and centered on the blade out to a 50' radius.
  • Discord 1/day.
  • Superheroism 3/day.

When operating on its special purpose, the blade can cause fear for 1d4 rounds when it strikes an opponent. It has no compunction about using this ability against good or evil, so long as the defense of its wielder or tribe is involved. Elven natural resistance to fear is automatically overcome. Opponents are entitled to a saving throw.

Berserk Rage

The wielder can achieve a Berserk rage once per day, gaining the benefits and hindrances of being a Berserker while under the influence of the Berserk rage. The wielder also gains the benefit of a strength spell while under the influence of the sword's magically induced berserk rage, which isn't applicable to other forms of berserker rage. Other Beserker warriors within 50' of the blade wielder gain an additional +1 to hit, +1 to damage and +1 hit point.

Bladesong Lore

The sword has a lore gem in the hilt that operates separately from the personality and powers of the sword, while the intelligence of the sword has access to all the knowledge of the gem. The gem grants weapon specialization, or an additional level of weapon proficiency if the wielder is already specialized. The weapon can also teach an ancient form of Dark Elven Bladesong. Any elf in physical possession of the blade can receive the benefits of the knowledge transfer, which must be followed up with physical training to be of any benefit. Training is still arduous, but training time is reduced by 50%.

History

Owned by: T'arkiem Nevarith

The sword was crafted around -18,000 for the Lord Protector of the ancient Dark Elven House of Stardust from Miyeritar. When the entire household was slain during raids around -13,200, Nevarith Stardust fled with his sword, hiding amongst fleeing slaves. He taught the slaves to defend themselves and they eventually formed the Nevarith tribe. He lead the tribe secretly through warriors he trained, and eventually passed leadership and the sword to his son.

After centuries, the sword adjusted its allegiance to protect the Nevarith tribe. During blade rite, it will only accept powerful warriors, Bladesingers in particular, who will lead and protect the tribe.
