Shaben was studying magic in King Azoun's court when his family was stripped of titles and land. While not involved, his wizard mentor dismissed him. The Cormaeril family decided they should provide patronage of the arts. Shaben has tried to distance himself from his traitorous family and has associated himself with Chiliad, a newly returned noble family in Suzail. His sister-in-law, Saera Theorsen, serves as the chamberlain of the Chiliad estate. Shaben had attended several of Chiliad Khilat's performances and numbers himself amoung his fans.
