The house was founded by Belsilvar Dreamsong, but brought to its height by the Silver Dragon Khilat. Progeny of Khilat and Arael Dreamsong formed the basis of the ascendant branch of Khilat.

The house was elevated to minor nobility when it successfully drew and wielded a Moonblade in -9,000 DR.

The house maintains a number of strongholds scattered throughout the Elven kingdoms, ostensively to support its merchant activities. The primary base of operations started as a major stronghold in the mountains of Evereska, but the Khilat household moved into the Vale of Evereska shortly after the founding of the city in -8,600 DR.

The estate in Evereska is built with white marble. While the Dreamsong and Silverbow septs may enter the house at will, others are only allowed to enter during special occasions by invitation only. The interior is reputed to be spacious, simple and refined.

Appearance and Traits

Members have a strong tendency for silvery white hair, though black hair is also fairly common. Eyes are most often blue with gold flecks, but violet eyes are common sometimes without gold flecks. Skin tones are the usual icy blue, with a tendency to blue grey.

The Khilat family is known for producing skilled rangers, wizards and clerics. They are very often devoted to various deities; particularly the Seldarine, but occasionally serve other gods. They are known to be shrewd in business, but likewise generous in the support of good causes, shifting funds and resources to support regions and allies in need.

Rangers of the house are known for their fierce prowess and staunch support for the cause of good. They are particularly good tacticians. They are often more adept at magic than one would expect, with skills in divine, arcane or sometimes both sources of magic. Many join knight and religious orders.

Wizards of the house excel in learning magic, often following unusual paths of study. Quite a few are able to master High Magic. Some are thought to draw upon other obscure sources of magic.

Priests of the house are particularly devout. The Seldarine are held in high esteem, but priests are known to follow non-Seldarine gods with just as much devotion.

It is also common that members follow paths combining the role of warrior, wizard and/or priest. With the exception of the occasional bard or minstrel, the path of the rogue is never followed alone, but in combination with some more honorable role that furthers Elven interests. Common thievery is not condoned by house leaders, and members of the Khilat house caught in such activities are often never seen again; presumably exiled or worse.

Insignia

The Khilat House Insignia consists of two dragons forming a circle with the head of each dragon biting the tail of the other. The dragon above is light colored, often silver, with it wings folded down over a dark dragon below. It often serves as a charm for a necklace or the design for a brooch.

The colors are white, dark grey and maroon. They are typically displayed in a circular pattern with a half circle of white on top, and quarter circles of dark grey and maroon below.

Individual members often adopt one of the three colors as their personal color.

If Eladrin heritage is also detected, then the Dreamsong insignia of a central gold star and an arch of six silver stars above, is often incorporated, with the arch of stars typically on a border of dark blue above the top dragon. Khilat members that were selected out of the Dreamsong sept into Khilat almost always include this addition.

Septs

The minor branches of Dreamsong, Silverbow and Meadowdancer remain closely allied as septs of House Khilat. All children are evaluated by senior members of House Khilat, who secretly determine if sufficient dragon heritage has been passed down. Though this is rare among the sept lines, an occasional child is declared a member of the Khilat line, and conversely, some children of the Khilat household are rejected and declared members of their closest related sept.

Marriages between the septs are most common between those close in rank. Marriages between Khilat and Meadowdancer are very rare. Anyone marrying into Khilat must obtain the approval of the house leader, and is further required to adopt the Khilat name, move to the Khilat estate, and is sworn to secrecy regarding the draconian heritage of the family.
