This extremely rare form of elven chainmail is almost exclusively fitted to elves and half-elves. The chainmail is attached to a fine quilted undergarment, crafted from the finest vortex spider silk, woven with threads that shimmer like moonlight on water. The underlayer provides warmth without bulk, breathing and wicking moisture away, allowing the wearer to move through cold mountain passes or sweltering jungle heat alike.

Like standard elven chainmail, this armor is enchanted to provide +1 to +5 bonus AC, with the enhancement also applying to saving throws.

Stealth mail grants freedom of movement equivalent to wearing no armor, making it ideal for thieves, spellcasters, and martial artists without hindering their abilities. At just 3 pounds, the suit feels as weightless as a normal set of clothes, counting as unencumbered when calculating movement rate. It is comfortable enough to wear while sleeping.

The chainmail's surface is treated to mimic the texture of fine linen or silk, according to the wearer's preference. When viewed from a distance, it appears as nothing more than ordinary attire. It can be worn beneath normal clothing, remaining completely undetectable. It features a matte finish designed to minimize light reflection, and is odorless to avoid detection.

The armor is magically enchanted to remain silent, even when struck by weapons. While the armor remains silent, the singing steel alloy amplifies the wearer's voice, granting a +1 bonus to all proficiency checks related to speaking and singing.

The wearer may activate complete silence at will, eliminating all noise. The armor's enchantment is subtle yet profound. When the wearer moves, their footsteps make no sound, even when running at full speed. The silence extends to all equipment worn and any item touched, creating an aura of stealth that rivals the most potent magic items. This silence does not impede spell casting that requires a verbal component, unless voice is used to deliver the spell effect, for example suggestion.

At sunrise each day, the suit is restored to pristine condition, appearing like the day its crafting was completed.

History

This suit of stealth mail originated among certain Lost Elves of the Border Forest, though no known heirs have been identified. It is high quality and made from Elven singing steel, an alloy of mithril and gold, forged with legendary magical techniques and craftsmanship. It is pale golden in color with the faint image of a setting sun on the chest, shimmering like captured sunlight when exposed to direct sunshine. The suit may have connections to Labelas Enoreth.

The chainmail suit was crafted and enchanted to provide +3 armor class. Its creation required decades of secret work by a guild of smiths who refused to reveal their methods.

The suit was recovered from a succubus demon who specialized in fire magic. It is likely that the armor was in the possession of Drow or demons for thousands of years.
