Upon command, the sword becomes sheathed in flickering sky blue flame, which can be adjusted in intensity from as small as a candle to the brightest of a flaming torch. The illumination ranges from 5’ to 15' radius. The blue light does not inhibit infra vision, or other light properties such as moonlight or sunlight.

When the spell sheath is activated, the flames takes on the properties of the sheath energy type.  Fire energy generates a blue guttering torch like flame. Electricity emits intense blue lightning bolts.

=== Spell Sheath ===
The wielder can cast spells into the blade, sacrificing their magical power to enhance the sword. The spells can be cast from memory or device. The type of spell determines the magical sheath power as indicated below. The sword can only be enhanced with one sacrificed spell at a time, with a new spell immediately replacing the benefits of the previous.
<blockquote>
==== Energy Sheath ====
If the sacrificed spell dealt damage of a particular energy type, the blade radiates that energy type, including any special properties (moonlight affecting lycanthropes, etc.). If the spell has more than one energy type, the wielder selects which type the sword radiates at the time the spell is cast. Subsequent spells with energy types immediately replace the effects of the previous spell. The energy radiated lasts for as many rounds as the spell level plus an additional round for every 3 class levels of the spellcaster. Every successful melee attack delivers an additional 1d6 of damage of that energy type, while a critical hit will deliver 1d10 instead.

Common energy types include: Cold, Electric, Fire, Negative, Positive, Sonic

==== Bladethirst ====
=== Contact ===
If the sacrificed spell doesn’t have a particular energy type, the sword’s bonus to hit increases by +1 per spell level of the sacrificed spell. The bonus to hit decreases each round until it reaches +1 which will last an additional round for every 3 levels of the caster.  The wielder also gains an initiative bonus of +1 for as long a the blade retains the bonus to hit.
The sword automatically establishes ''contact'' on behalf of the wielder with no initial cost when the opponent’s psionics are scrambled, and ''contact'' can’t be broken while the opponent’s psionics remain scrambled.

Sacrificing a subsequent spell only provides benefits if bonuses exceed the current bonuses (casting a fifth level when when the sword has dropped to +4 will bump the sword back to +5 for a round), otherwise the new spell is wasted.
The sword gains an additional +2 to hit against any opponent linked with active ''contact'', improving changes of subsequent hits to inflict damage and scramble psionics. Opponents are penalized -2 on their attacks against the wielder.

On a successful hit, the opponent’s psionic powers are scrambled for 1d4 rounds. Psionic attacks and disciplines will not function. The opponent is only able to use defense modes, with reduced effectiveness as follows. The opponent is treated as if subject to ego whip, with a 5 point (or 25%) penalty on all other activities, including psionic defense, melee attacks, saving throws, etc. Spell casting is limited to spells of level 3 or lower.

Contact

The sword automatically establishes contact on behalf of the wielder with no initial cost when the opponent’s psionics are scrambled, and contact can’t be broken while the opponent’s psionics remain scrambled.

Feature

The blade from the cross guard to the tip has changed to clear crystal azure blue sapphire, while retaining the properties, strength and flexibility of the original metal construction. The details of the craftsmanship with intricate structures are clearly visible in the crystalline composition of the blade, including the circles with inset stars and metallic laminates. The quarter moon circlets have a faint glow and the stars shimmer like star sapphires in the sun.

Rite

Lord Belsilvar Khilat survived the blade rite while drawing the moonblade, raising the status of the Elven House of Khilat from a merchant clan to minor nobility and becoming its first lord.

Lord Belsilvar first sought the blessing of the Silver Pantheon through the combined power of High Magic and a Tulani granted Wish to bind Eladrin and Draconic bloodlines into the sword.

Lord Belsilvar then completed a rite to establish his chosen power into the blade. With the assistance of six Feywardens, he used a blue star sapphire kiira to transform the blade to crystalline sapphire while retaining all the original properties of the master crafted metal blade, and binding a portion of his own spirit into the moonblade. Seven war wizards cast bladethirst while transferring their martial and magical proficiencies into the crystal blade.
