Teuvel'Khilat - Draconic Moonfire

From House of Khilat

Sehanine's Blessing

Moonfire

Once per day, the moonfire can be set afire. If the moonfire is connected to the blade or caster, the fire is unleashed in a 10' wide and 30' long line of Moonfire directly away from the sword. If the moonfire is adrift, the area it occupies is set afire.

The effect is equivalent to the 5th level Moonfire spell granted by Sehanine. The fire does 20 points of damage to any undead caught in its path, and 2d4 points of damage to any living creature. The path of "cold white fire" remains active for 1d4+2 rounds with the following lingering effects:

  • All magical auras, including glyphs and wards, are revealed by a green glow.
  • All shape changed or polymorphed creatures are revealed, forcing them to their true form on a failed save, otherwise outlining them in silvery fire.
  • All electrical attacks initiated within the path are negated, while those from outside are deflected.

Morphing

Due to the Silver Dragon blood enhanced Moonfire, the sword can shift its shape at will into any blade form in the broad blade group, including a dagger, short sword, scimitar, long sword, broad sword, bastard sword, great sword or two-handed sword. Shifting form restores the weapon to perfection, removing any nicks or damage. This transforming magic can even mend the sword should it ever become broken or shattered, if all the pieces are available and in physical contact.

Changing shape takes as little as half a second to complete.

Disguise

The sword can change its appearance as well, creating patterns and designs on its chosen form at will. It can attempt to mimic swords its owners have seen, though there is a chance the deception can fail depending on how well the sword has been copied versus how well someone knows the original.

Interactions

  • Chromatic Blade - The motes can shine any color but lose their moonlight quality.
  • Shadow Sword - The Shadow Sword cancels the moonfire features of the moonblade during melee combat.
  • Flame Tongue - Flaming and Sunshine cancel the moonfire features of the moonblade during melee combat.
  • Selune's Blessing - The Moonfire blessing enhances the Moonfire to last 22 rounds, and the flash causes 22 points of damage to undead in a 50' length path. The Motes of Moonlight increase in count to 75 with a radius of 45' or line of 220' for a duration of 3 hours.

Appearance

Feature

A layer of silver over a wider layer of blue mithral plating on the sword's cutting edge creates a halo effect around the darkmetal blade core. The moonglow of the blade comes from the shiny halo area and the moonstone. Near the base of the blade, a couple of inches above the cross guard, the blade is flared in a circle with the image of the moon. Imbedded in the blade to be visible from both sides, just below the moon circle, is a 1/2 inch round clear moonstone that always displays an image of the moon in its current phase.

Rite

Lord Elian gathered 3 Starsingers and 7 Knights of the 7th Order of the Seven Sacred Mysteries, along with the silver dragon Khilat. The ceremony was held in an ancient moon temple high in the Star Mounts, under a bright full moon and clear sky in a field of Motes of Moonlight and a Moonbeam spell. Using a quart of Khilat's dragon blood, the Starsingers called Moonfire onto the alter to bathe Lord Elian and the sword. Each of the knights called forth Moon Blade spells in the shapes of their preferred swords and dubbed Lord Elian and the sword which absorbed each of the seven magic blades. Lord Elian cast Detect Spirits at the same moment his own spirit was bound to the blade and he watched it pass into the moonstone.
