Hornette

From House of Khilat

In its natural form, this item has a black horn looking like it came from a goat, or perhaps a gazelle. The horn is about 6 inches long, slightly curved with a slight curl and numerous ridges from base to tip. The tip of the horn is very sharp and suitable for use as an awl or perhaps a tool for planting seeds. The horn is mounted to a handle of rich cream brown ivory. The ivory handle has 5 scrimshaw carvings of hornets with cabochon cut emeralds set for their abdomens. A larger emerald is set in the end of the handle as a pommel.

Powers

When this weapon is drawn by a Gnome or Halfling, the horn lengthens and flattens to form a long thin dagger of black horn. The edges are serrated making for a very nasty wound.

The dagger remains extremely lightweight and provides a +2 bonus in combat. It easily penetrates wood or stone, doing maximum damage against those materials.

When the handle is held, the owner can cast a phantasmal force that can be maintained as long as the user concentrates. No other strenuous action, such as combat, can be taken while maintaining the illusion.

The emeralds in the handle will glow a soft green light at will, illuminating a 15' radius. The horn can serve as a handle to be used like a torch, or it can be mounted in a sconce to light a small room.

History

Owned by: Belgretor Woodsheart

Belgretor received this tool from his Treetender mentor. He is very fond of it. One of his favorite jokes is to draw it, as either a horn or dagger, and create the illusion of dozens of 3 inch long glowing green hornets emerging from the horn. He will control the illusion to buzz and annoy friends and strangers or distract enemies during melee before he attacks or escapes. The hornets disappear as soon as the illusion is broken for lack of concentration.
