The Diadem of Disguise is has a braided cord with threads of gold, silver, adamantite, mithral and other more exotic materials, including aranea silk, ogre mage hair and magical components. The front is set with a gem-piece, consisting of a brilliant fire opal covered with a dome of light sunstone with a golden sheen. Small beads of tiger’s eye are evenly spaced along the cord. It has a simple clasp on the ends of the cord allowing it to be wrapped around the wearer’s head, intertwined with some hair to keep it in place and clipped to secure it.

Powers

The diadem contains powerful enchantment that allows the wearer to Alter Self and Change Self for unlimited duration at will for a combined visual change to appear 75% larger or smaller. The Alter Self can change the physical weight and volume of the wearer along with clothing and equipment of up to 200 pounds of personal gear by 50%. Non-magical gear can be modified; or melded into the body and later extracted at will from the original location. Magic items can save versus magic to avoid the physical alteration. The wearer’s body and gear can undergo a limited physical alteration. If the form selected has wings, the wizard can actually fly, but at only one-third the speed of a true creature of that type, and with a loss of two maneuverability classes (to a minimum of E). If the form has gills, the caster can breathe under water as long as the spell lasts. However, the caster does not gain any multiple attack routines or additional damage allowed to an assumed form. The wearer’s attack rolls, Armor Class, and saving throws do not change. The alteration does not confer special abilities, attack forms, or defenses. The illusory nature of the Change Self will further enhance the magic by covering up magic items, magical effects; or provide simple visual enhancements. Such changes do not extend beyond 2’ from the user or held gear.

The diadem can be changed to appear as any type of head decoration such as a comb, ribbon, head band, fillet, cap, coif, hood, helmet, etc. Many magic items can also be temporarily altered in appearance with a 50% change of size, so a long sword could appear as a short sword, a cloak as a cape, etc.

The diadem also provides the power of tongues allowing the wearer to understand and speak in the language of any intelligent being encountered. Further, the wearer’s voice is altered to sound like a natural speaker of the language of the appropriate race, or even to mimic a specific individual.

The wearer can appear and speak like a specific person, though that person’s knowledge and experience are not provided. If the person to be mimics is known and has been seen and heard, the mimicry is 90% effective even to others who know the person well.

When not impersonating a specific person, the wearer can choose to be utterly unmemorable. The wearer is 80% undetectable when in a crowd. It makes a wearer almost impossible to recognize after having been seen, even when no longer wearing the diadem.
