Background story of Chiliad Khilat

From House of Khilat

Chiliad Khilat was born to the Lady Luviel Khilat of Evereska and Sir Jeldean Chiliad of the noble House of Chiliad of Cormyr. Lady Luviel met Sir Jeldean at the Elven Court while visiting relatives in that realm. After he met her, the aging knight retired and left the service of King Rhigaerd II of Cormyr, and married Lady Luviel.

Lady Luviel is a well know Mage at the College of Magic in Evereska. The House of Khilat has considerable power in Evereska. Though all her relatives who lived at the Elven Court have moved to Evermeet, she still keeps in touch with them, including the wife of her second cousin, King Zaor of Evermeet. Her family disapproves of her marriage to Sir Jeldean and refuses to allow her family possessions to pass to the hands of their children. Since she was only 105 years old when she married, they expect her to remarry an Elf and bear children who will live long enough to deserve what allotment of family wealth they are due according to her status.

Sir Jeldean once served as a knight in a special force that served King Rhigaerd II of Cormyr. Rhigaerd sent Jeldean to the Elven Court as a messenger. When Jeldean returned, he informed the King of his intentions to marry Lady Luviel and move to Evereska. Though saddened, Rhigaerd told Jeldean that his family estate, a house in Suzail, would remain his for as long as he was known to be alive. King Azoun IV knows of his fathers desires in this matter, and is likely to honor a valid claim to the Chiliad Estate or renew the family charter.

Sir Jeldean and Lady Luviel had two children before Sir Jeldean's bastard son arrived in Evereska seeking out his father and birthright. The elves of Evereska drove him out due to his evil tendencies, but not before he claimed a great deal of wealth from his father. Shortly after this, the Lady Luviel unexpectedly conceived Chiliad, a late comfort to both their hearts.

Chiliad's older brother, named Jeldean after his father, was born two years after his parents marriage. He took after his father and became a respected knight of the House of Khilat, serving nobility of Evereska. He was sent to the Greycloak Hills where he holds a high position.

His older sister, Chiluviel, was born two years after Jeldean. She learned the secrets of magic from her mother and the thrusts of the blade from her father. She routinely roams the mountains of her homeland, protecting it as a ranger/Mage.

Since Chiliad had come so late to them, his parents had already given most of their shared personal treasures to Jeldean and Chiluviel, but what little they had left, the offered to Chiliad. Besides a fair living and a good education, Chiliad was named after the founding patriarch of the Chiliad family and thus gained the advantage of using both family names.

As a youth, Chiliad "adventured" with his many elven friends, always pretending to be great heros. Maturing fast, he began learning the skills that he would use throughout his life.

Chiliad had the elven gift of languages and quickly learned all that his mother could teach him, both spoken and written. He likewise got her beautiful singing voice and gift for music. She tried to teach him magic and he understood the theories and loved the symbols and glyphs, but didn't have the dedication to pursue it further.

Under the instruction of both his father and elven swordsmen, Chiliad excelled in the use of the blade, though more because he liked practicing the styles than any intention to use his knowledge. Though he has elven night vision, he learned blind fighting from his father, and often showed off to his friends. Chiliad earned to use a shield, but avoided the heavy armor worn by knights like his father, since it ruined his style. Neither did he fully embrace his father's burdensome code of honor.

Chiliad learned much of his courtly manner from his brother who reveled in the life of the nobility, and understated grace practiced by his mother. But he was far more impressed with his sister who loved the great outdoors. She often took him on trips through the local woods and mountains where they swam, hiked, hunted and visited with the Druidic community. From her he learned to love life and the land.

As Chiliad matured, he realized that all his elven friends and relatives, including his mother, would long outlive him. Chiliad also knew that he had done nothing great with his life so far. He thought that perhaps only by performing some great deed would he be remembered. It was at the end of this line of reasoning that Chiliad decided to leave his home and become an adventurer.

After he announced this to his family, his father gave him a bastard sword and a dagger. Both had the family symbol of the House of Chiliad on them, that of a ram horned snake with the head biting the handle, ram horns serving as a hand guard and a blade etched with snake scales. Additionally, Chiliad learned a number of peacestring knots from his father, including the traditional knot of the House of Chiliad.

From an early age, Chiliad had worn his father's signet ring with the ram horned snake on it. This he moved to the chain around his neck which holds the symbol of the House of Khilat, which consisted of two dragons, one light and one dark, In a circle so that each is biting the tail of the other with the lighter of the two on top and wings folded down to cover the wings of the other. His personal symbol is a combination of his family symbols consisting of two snakes forming an infinity symbol, each biting the tail of the other. He likewise wears a chain with the holy symbols of both Corellon Larethian and Milil hanging from it; the blue quarter moon and silver harp.

Chiliad received much of his adventuring gear as gifts, buying the rest of his gear with savings. His mother provided him with some nice clothing which included special needle point and decoration.

After saying goodbye to those he loved, his sister escorted him out of Evereska on her Pegasus.
