Teuvel'Khilat / Mageblade

Powers

Sword Casting

The wielder can cast spells through the sword. Spells that can be cast through the sword include memorized arcane and divine spells, as well as spells cast from various warn magic items, including beluths, bracers, mantles, rings, etc.

The blade provides the verbal, somatic and standard material components. Spell components valued less than 50 gp are provided by the sword, unless the component is the object of the spell. Special or costly components of a spell must still be provided by the spellcaster, as needed. Spells delivered by touch can be delivered with a touch of the blade.

While casting spells, the wielder can only take defensive actions such as parrying and improving armour class. The only offensive actions allowed include delivering spell effects by touch, which may require a successful hit. Any actions that would ruin spell casting still apply, including being successful struck by an opponent.

Spells from the wielder’s area of specialty are cast through the sword with an additional level of spell casting. This includes a wizard’s school(s) of specialization, a war wizard’s spells of choice, priest spells exclusive to their chosen deity, a specialty priest’s granted powers, and bards casting spells from the school of song.

Spell Storing

The sword can store up to three spells cast into the blade, either from memory, scroll or magical device. Arcane spells are limited to 7th level or less, and divine spells must be 5th or lower. Casting time of the original spell must be less than 1 round and must target damage or a specific spell effect against the opponent.

Spells can be discharged against an opponent on contact of a successful melee attack. Discharge is immediate, but only one stored spell can be discharged per melee round.

Spell Sheath

A memorized spell can be cast into the blade which then radiates the energy type of the spell for as many rounds as the spell level plus an additional round for every 3 class levels of the spellcaster. Every successful melee attack delivers an additional 1d6 of the energy type of the spell cast into the blade, while a critical hit will deliver 1d10 of the Sam energy type. Common energy types include flame, frost, electrical and sonic.

Weapon Skill

Regardless of class, the sword owner can wield Teuvel’Khilat with the same capability as a single class fighter with specialization, with the following benefits:

Specialization

  • +1 to hit
  • +2 to damage
  • an increase in the rate of attack of 1 additional attack every two rounds.

Ambidextrous use

  • No penalty is incurred while using Teuvel’Khilat in the wielder’s off hand.

If the sword wielder has achieved specialization in any sword of the long blade group, then Teuvel’Khilat is wielded at that same level of mastery.

Mastery

  • +3 to hit
  • +3 to damage

High Mastery

  • Critical hit on rolls of 16+

Grand Mastery

  • Weapon damage dice are increased to the next largest die size - d4→d6, d6→d8, d8→d10, & d10→d12.
  • an increase in the rate of attack of 1 additional attack every two rounds.
