Sonlorath's Tear

From House of Khilat

This gem is a clear tear drop gemstone about 1/4 inch long with silvery wisps at its center. Peering into the stone, the silvery wisps will resolve into images of past events, as is typical of any Realms King's Tear gem.

Powers

The gemstone will reveal images from the life of an Elven Sister of the Veiled Choir. When the image within is initially viewed, memories will be incredibly sad as they recall the singing of the choir memorializing the death of sister. With some effort, further memories of the sister can be accessed, most often of her singing, either alone or with other sisters. In some cases, bits of prophesy for events long past are revealed. If the image is accessed in a quiet location, Elven singing of unequalled quality can be heard, bringing the hearer to tears.

History

Sonlorath was a silver dragon of unusual ancestry. During the crown wars, certain elves used high magic to transform into silver dragons for the purpose of forming alliances with good silver dragon clans. Most transformed elves left their elven identity behind, but some let their children know their heritage. Those who knew their heritage often continued to serve the Elven people, with particular affinity for Aerdrie Faenya or Sehanine Moonbow.

Sonlorath assumed the identity of an Elven priestess of Sehanine, followed the path of a Circle Singer and was eventually taken into the ranks of the Sisters of the Veiled Choir where she lived to an incredible age hidden at a Veiled Cantoria. In her latter years, as her sisters grew old and passed into the Luminous Cloud, the sisters who remained would have a ceremony to sing of the deeds of the sister now gone. Sonlorath would cry while singing and remembering the departed sister, and a single crystal would fall from her eye containing those memories.

Over the centuries, as the membership of the sister's waxed and waned, dozens of tears were shed. Tears were collected up, and most often given to pupils of the passed sister, and later collected up for future sisters to cherish. Some few have left the safety of the Veiled Cantoria, most often with a destiny or purpose as part of a musical magic item for a powerful minstrel or Elven bard.
