Powers

Moon Blade

The draconian based Moonfire infused into the blade raises its base bonus to +2 to hit and damage. The blade remains exceptionally cool to the touch.

At will, the sword can shed moonlight with properties similar to the Moon Blade spell. When melee is engaged, the silvery moonfire that baths the blade makes it effective against creatures only hit by +4 or better weapons. Its strike drains vitality or life force causing an additional 1d6 points of damage to living creatures. Undead are visibly wounded by the moonfire; their substance boils away from its touch, and they suffer double base damage of the sword plus an additional 2d6 damage per blow.

On a successful strike against an opponent, the moonfire temporarily scrambles their magic for the rest of the current round, and the round after being hit. Victims cannot cast spells, activate magic items or call on any spell-like abilities while their magic is scrambled. Active spells, enchantments and inate spell-like abilities, as well as activated magic items have their functions suspended for the same period, with any benefits or consequences of the suspended magic taking affect, as appropriate. Suspended magic resumes on the subsequent round, though magic with a fixed duration is not extended. Area based spells already in effect, but not centered or emanating from the opponent are not affected.

Resizing

The sword can temporarily shift from metal to moonlight, and can alter its size from 1-5 feet in length, assuming any standard sword form in that range including a dagger, short sword, long sword, bastard sword and greatsword. The sword can change shape at will, taking as little as half a second to resize. The image of the moon engraved at the base of the blade will change phase from crescent to full moon, based on the overall size of its current form.

It wields as a short sword with regard to encumbrance, weight, speed factor and ease of use, and always gains the Elven racial short sword benefit. Anyone proficient in any of its forms is proficient with this blade. The sword will often change shape during combat if the size change is a benefit during combat and its wielder is proficient in more than one of its forms. This feature can be disconcerting to wielders if they are not familiar with this feature of the blade.

Transforming between shapes restores the weapon to perfection, removing any nicks or damage. This transforming magic can even mend the sword should it ever become broken or shattered, if all the pieces are available and in physical contact.

Moon Light

The swords ability to shed light is greatly enhanced. The blade can replicate moon light of any intensity and season. It has qualities similar to the 2nd level priest spell Eilistraee's Moonfire.

  • The radius of light can be changed from an aura immediately around the blade, to a globe of light between 5' and 35' radius, following 5' increments. When reduced to an aura around the blade, it can also form an aura surrounding the wielder. A globe of illumination can include numerous motes of light, up to 7 motes per 5' radius, as desired. The motes wander around within the globe of illumination like fireflies.
  • The intensity can range from a faint glow to a clear, bright (but not blinding) light, equivalent to that of a full moon.
  • The color of the moon light can vary in hue as desired: blue-white, soft green, white, and silver. Orange to red can be selected when emulating an eclipsed moon.

The light shed by the blade is treated as moonlight in all respects. Priests of Eilistraee, Sehanine and Selune standing among the motes are treated as if they were standing in the light of a full moon. Lycanthropes will be affected as if they were bathed in the light of a full moon.

The wielder can detect Elven spirits within the area of motes, including those contained in objects, magic items, animals, plants or free roaming.

Motes of Moonlight

The tip of the blade can place a mote of moonlight where it will remain for 2 hours, unless cancelled by the wielder, dispelled or negated by magical darkness. One mote can be placed per minute, for a maximum of 120 motes at any given time.

Interactions

  • Chromatic Blade - The motes can shine any color but lose their moonlight quality.
  • Shadow Sword - The Shadow Sword cancels the moonfire features of the moonblade during melee combat.
  • Flame Tongue - Flaming and Sunshine cancel the moonfire features of the moonblade during melee combat.
  • Selune's Blessing - The Moonfire blessing enhances the Moonfire to last 22 rounds, and the flash causes 22 points of damage to undead in a 50' length path. The Motes of Moonlight increase in count to 75 with a radius of 45' or line of 220' for a duration of 3 hours.

Feature

A layer of silver over a wider layer of blue mithral plating on the sword's cutting edge creates a halo effect around the darkmetal blade core. The moonglow of the blade comes from the shiny halo area and the moonstone. Near the base of the blade, a couple of inches above the cross guard, the blade is flared in a circle with the image of the moon. Imbedded in the blade to be visible from both sides, just below the moon circle, is a 1/2 inch round clear moonstone that always displays an image of the moon in its current phase.

Rite

Lord Elian gathered 3 Starsingers and 7 Knights of the 7th Order of the Seven Sacred Mysteries, along with the silver dragon Khilat. The ceremony was held in an ancient moon temple high in the Star Mounts, under a bright full moon and clear sky in a field of Motes of Moonlight and a Moonbeam spell. Using a quart of Khilat's dragon blood, the Starsingers called Moonfire onto the alter to bathe Lord Elian and the sword. Each of the knights called forth Moon Blade spells in the shapes of their preferred swords and dubbed Lord Elian and the sword which absorbed each of the seven magic blades. Lord Elian cast Detect Spirits at the same moment his own spirit was bound to the blade and he watched it pass into the moonstone.
