House of Khilat

From House of Khilat

The house was founded by Belsilvar Dreamsong, but brought to its height by the Silver Dragon Khilat. Progeny of Khilat and Arael Dreamsong formed the basis of the ascendant branch of Khilat.

The house was elevated to minor nobility when it successfully drew and wielded a Moonblade in -9,000 DR.

The house maintains a number of strongholds scattered throughout the Elven kingdoms, ostensively to support its merchant activities. The primary base of operations started as a major stronghold in the mountains of Evereska, but the Khilat household moved into the Vale of Evereska shortly after the founding of the city in -8,600 DR.

The estate in Evereska is built with white marble. While the Dreamsong and Silverbow septs may enter the house at will, others are only allowed to enter during special occasions by invitation only. The interior is reputed to be spacious, simple and refined.

Members have a strong tendency for silvery white hair, though black hair is also fairly common. Eyes are most often blue with gold flecks, but violet eyes are common sometimes without gold flecks. Skin tones are the usual icy blue, with a tendency to blue grey.

The Khilat family is known for producing skilled rangers, wizards and clerics. They are very often devoted to various deities; particularly the Seldarine, but occasionally serve other gods. They are known to be shrewd in business, but likewise generous in the support of good causes, shifting funds and resources to support regions and allies in need.

Rangers of the house are known for their fierce prowess and staunch support for the cause of good. They are particularly good tacticians. They are often more adept at magic than one would expect, with skills in divine, arcane or sometimes both sources of magic. Many join knight and religious orders.

Wizards of the house excel in learning magic, often following unusual paths of study. Quite a few are able to master High Magic. Some are thought to draw upon other obscure sources of magic.

Priests of the house are particularly devout. The Seldarine are held in high esteem, but priests are known to follow non-Seldarine gods with just as much devotion.

It is also common that members follow paths combining the role of warrior, wizard and/or priest. With the exception of the occasional bard or minstrel, the path of the rogue is never followed alone, but in combination with some more honorable role that furthers Elven interests. Common thievery is not condoned by house leaders, and members of the Khilat house caught in such activities are often never seen again; presumably exiled or worse.

Septs

The minor houses of Dreamsong, Silverbow and Meadowdancer remain closely allied as septs of House Khilat. All children are evaluated by senior members of House Khilat, who secretly determine if sufficient dragon heritage has been passed down. Though this is rare among the sept lines, an occasional child is declared a member of the Khilat line, and conversely, some children of the Khilat household are rejected and declared members of their closest related sept.

Marriages between the septs are most common between those close in rank. Marriages between Khilat and Meadowdancer are very rare. Anyone marrying into Khilat must obtain the approval of the house leader, and is further required to adopt the Khilat name, move to the Khilat estate, and is sworn to secrecy regarding the draconian heritage of the family.

Sept Dreamsong

The Dreamsong sept is very closely associated with the noble House of Khilat. They are privy to the secrets of the House of Khilat and can freely enter the main estate.

Dreamsongs are typically taller than the average Moon Elf, and tend to be stately and graceful. Traits of their Tulani heritage from Ary'a'sum run true in the family. Many have excellent signing voices. They have a strong tendency for blue black hair, though silver hair is also fairly common. Eyes are most often green, but piercing blue eyes are common, and rarer still golden green; all with glittering gold flecks. Skin tones are the usual lightly bronze with twinges of pale blue.

This lesser branch is known for producing skilled rangers, as well as wizards, fighters, priests and an occasional bard. Many also serve as merchants who trade goods between Elven enclaves throughout Faerun. Others are skilled artisans, producing weapons and musical instruments; and occasionally produce simple magical weapons or instruments under contract.

After the Khilat family moved the primary estate to the Vale of Evereka, the large estate in the mountains surrounding Evereska reverted to control of the Dreamsong sept. The estate is built to blend into the surroundings and magic remains to keep it hidden from non-elves. The surrounding area includes numerous orchards and other forms of agriculture blended into the natural environment. Domesticated animals are also raised, including a heard of moonhorses.

Other estates are held throughout the mountains of Evereska and the Grey Cloaks, as well as strongholds on the merchant paths in various Elven kingdoms. Warehouses are also maintained in various Elven cities as well as certain human cities friendly to elves. Estates and strongholds are often allocated to Dreamsong warrior lords who have earned a reputation.

Sept Silverbow

The Silverbow sept is a lesser branch that provides servants and martial support for the Khilats. Those who serve as household servants of the Khilat estate are privey to many of the secrets of the house, but they are sworn to secrecy, while other hear rumors but know better than to repeat them outside of the Silverbow sept.

Silverbows are typically taller than the average Moon Elf, and tend to be lean and strong. Traits of their Shiere heritage from Vel'Nikerym run true in the family. They are loyal to a fault and very protective of other elves and family holdings. They raise and ride strong mounts, including a heard of Moon Horses. They have a strong tendency for pale golden hair, though silver hair is also fairly common. Eyes are most often green, but piercing blue eyes are common, with glittering gold flecks. Skin tones are the usual milky white with twinges of pale blue.

The sept is known for producing skilled archers and warriors. They have some priests and wizards, but few of any note are produced. Silverbow bowyers are highly respected and their bows are prized. Occasion skilled artisans can be found producing a variety of quality crafts including weapons, musical instruments and fine goods such as jewelry. Many others manage the various household tasks of the various estates.

The sept also performs some of the less savory tasks for the house of Khilat, including information gathering and spying. Common thievery is not condoned, but occasionally overlooked if it serves the common good of the house.

Sept Meadowdancer

The Meadowdancer sept is the least of the branches, consisting of the most common elves of the extended Khilat hierarchy. They regularly intermarry with the Silverbow sept.

Meadowdancers are fairly typical Moon Elves, but many have Wood Elven features, and some members resemble Wood Elves entirely. They have a strong tendency for black and brown hair, though blue and silver hair is also fairly common, with occasional coppery red. Eyes are most often green, with the occasional hazel; all with glittering gold flecks. Skin tones are pale with twinges of blue.

The sept has many members that tend the Khilat herds and orchards. Some achieve moderate rank as Druids. They are also craftsman of various Elven goods typically made of natural materials, including clothing and household goods. These goods are often trade as a small part of the merchant business.
