Falconblade

From House of Khilat

This bastard sword is of very fine craftsmanship, plainly of elven make. The hilt has the appearance of a piece of wood, smoothed and polished, but is a fine metal of unknown type. The crosspiece is in the form of a falcon, wings outspread, talons grasping the hilt. The blade itself is engraved with a faint feather pattern. When grasped by one of elven blood, the falcon’s claws grip the wielder’s hand, the talons digging painlessly into the flesh. When sheathed or put down, the claws return to their grip on the hilt. The blade glows with a barely visible amber light and falcon’s eyes shine a piercing, brilliant blue.

Powers

Bastard Sword +2

Its powers are as follows:

  • The amber glow adds 30’ to the bearer’s infravision.
  • Elves and Half-Elves can't accidentally drop the sword when held, including during combat.
  • Falconstrike (1 per 2 rounds) – The strike has a range of 50’, made at the wielders “to hit” and gains all bonuses, including the +2 enchantment. The strike appears as a spectral falcon of amber light.
  • Fly (1/day) for a total of one hour per day.

Falcon Spirit

The sword has the spirit of a peregrine falcon from the astral plane bound into the blade to provide the magical falconstrike power. Typical of the more advanced abilities of astral animals, the spirit is sentient with an animal like personality and intelligence score of 13, though unable to communicate effectively while bound in an inanimate form. The spirit is of neutral alignment and its only desire is to fly, hunt and experience life, so has an ego score of 6. It has learned fighting skills as a sword from its many masters, and provides sword fighting guidance at a subconscious level. If treated well, the falcon spirit will form a bond with its owner and seek to protect him.

During the Time of Troubles, the sword was merged into Chiliad allowing the spirit to fly in the nearby vicinity bound to Chiliad by an astral silver cord.

Kiira

When the Kiira of the Warriors Blade was placed on Chiliad’s forehead intersecting the silver cord of the astral falcon spirit, the Kiira bonded with the falcon spirit. Falconblade increased in intelligence to 15 and ego of 10 and can communicate via telepathy. All the memories and fighting skills contained in the kiira are available to the falcon spirit and can be shared with the sword wielder.

The falcon spirit can project in a spectral form of amber light from its host object (initially Chiliad, but later its sword form) with the appearance of a golden falcon or flying golden sword. While the falcon essence is projected, the powers of flight and falconstrike are not available.

Gaining powers from the kiira, Falconblade can leave behind a small token of its spirit essence in the form of a small golden gem/kiira or plain golden ring, tangible only in the mind of the token owner. Typically one token is worn by the sword wielder, either a ring or a gem bonded to the forehead. Up to 15 tokens can be created, allowing the sword and its wielder to see and sense what is happening around each token. Empathic urges and simple guidance can be given to those possessing the tokens with unlimited distance on the prime material plane. The empathic connections can be used to establish clairvoyant and clairaudient connections.
