Bark Armor

Bark armor is common amongst Forest Gnomes, and occasionally shared with green elves, where such items are very rare. It is made from several layers of natural materials. While some suits have an inner layer of leather, some of the best suits are composed of materials gathered exclusively from trees. Inner layers are flexible spongy cork like sheets of bark, often lined with a cotton like cloth. Regardless, the outer layer is always constructed with flexible overlapping shingles of bark of the trees common to the forest gnome community.

The suit can be painstaking sewn together, but often times the whole is magically mended into a single stitch-less and seamless construction of bark. The outer shingles are then hardened or 'petrified' using herbal or magical methods. At this point, the armor is still non-magical, can't be dispelled, and provides a base armor class of 5. The armor is light weight, but slightly bulky like heavy clothing.

The spongy under layer muffles sounds and the natural bark allows the average forest gnome to blend into their forest surroundings.

Powers

Magical sets of bark armor will have protective values of +1 to +5.

Further, magical suits will provide illusion based camouflage equivalent to a cloak of elvenkind; 99% effective in the forest.

The armor changes colors at will, appearing as normal but slightly bulky clothing.
