Absorption

The blade can absorb spells similar to the absorption spell. The total storage capacity is 21 levels, and the sword can only absorb into unused capacity. Stored spell levels must be expended to make room for additional storage. Up to 21 spell levels can be absorbed and stored per day, with no additional spells being absorbed once the maximum of 21 levels have been reached. Spells that would exceed the 21 level limit will not be absorbed.

Stored spell levels can be expended to cast spells without using spell slots. The wielder must have the spells available cast, either divine or arcane, but the stored spell energy is used instead, with the spell being retained for later casting.

Star Shuriken

The wielder can launch 21 shuriken-shaped razor-sharp seven-pointed stars of golden fire from the tip of the blade per day. These fly at the desired target within 60 yards range, throwing off fiery sparks as they travel. A successful hit causes 2d8 points of damage from the flames and the sharp edges. Creatures resistant to fire suffer only 1d4 points of damage.

Upon striking the target (or any other solid object on a missed throw), the fire shuriken disappears in a burst of multi-colored smoke. This smoke is particularly thick, temporarily obscuring the vision of the target and causing a -2 penalty on the creature's next attack.

Starshine

The blade can shed starshine covering an area up to 30' radius. The field can be tightened to a 6 inch radius immediately around the blade with swirling stars.

Sword Casting

Spells can be cast through the sword with sword motions providing the somatic component and Elven song of the blade serving as the verbal component. Spell components valued less than 50 gp are provided by the sword, unless the component is the object of the spell. Spells cast through the sword have boosted effects as if cast at one level higher. The sword must be held in hand at the beginning of the round that the spell is initiated, and can only be used in defense for the duration of the casting time.

Starshine Spell Boost

Once per day, one variable aspect of a spell cast through the sword, such as damage or duration, can be boosted. The blade always sheds starshine to its maximum range before this power is used, and the star fields collapses upon the blade at the time the spell is boosted.

When the wielder then casts a spell, that spell will be enhanced so that saves against the spell are at -2.

The following variable aspects of spells can be boosted:

• 50% increase in area of affect
• +1 per die to damage rolls
• 50% longer duration
• 50% increase in range

Feature

Near the base, just inside the lighting bolts, are 5 dark metallic five pointed stars taken from the core of a living star fallen to the ground in the Star Mounts. The stars are visible on both sides of the blade on each edge. They naturally generate and attract electricity. The metal has a natural influence on magic and usually enhances it.
